Important Notice: Due to COVID-19, all the workshops as well as the Summer ST-ARTS program have been cancelled.ST-ARTS is a program co-sponsored by the Winthrop University College of Visual and Performing Arts and the participating school districts from York and Lancaster counties. This program, which serves 290 gifted and talented students in the arts in grades 6-8, will convene on the Winthrop campus from June 8-26, 2020 for its annual program. The participating school districts are Clover, Fort Mill, Lancaster, Rock Hill, and York.
A professional faculty of over 45 artists/ teachers in the four visual and performing arts (dance, music, drama, and visual arts) is drawn from a pool of nationally known performing artists, the SC Arts Commission Artists Roster, master teachers from public and private schools, and the Winthrop University faculty. This diverse faculty directs the students through a multi-faceted curriculum from 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM daily during the 3 week program.
- There is no cost for students to attend this program.
- No transportation to Winthrop is offered by the school district.
- Auditions will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. Students should report to the auditorium at Rawlinson Road Middle School, 2631 W. Main Street, Rock Hill, at least 15 minutes prior to their audition time. See audition notes for further details.
When and where will auditions take place?
Auditions will take place on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, in the auditorium at Rawlinson Road Middle School. Students will receive notification of their audition time two weeks prior to the auditions. Students should arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to their audition time. Parking is available on left side of the building. Auditions will begin at 4:45 PM and will end when all have completed their audition. Parents can pick up their child in the auditorium after the audition.
How do I know I am selected or not selected to participate in the ST-ARTS program? All students who auditioned will be notified by mail approximately 2 weeks following the auditions.
Where does the ST-ARTS program take place? The summer ST-ARTS program will be held June 8-26, 2020 weekdays only, from 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM at Winthrop University. Also, attendance at all three Saturday Workshops is expected. The Saturday workshops are held at Byrnes Auditorium from 9 AM – 1 PM. Students who attend none of the workshops will forfeit their place in the summer program.
The Saturday workshop dates are:
- February 01, 2020 (Parents may attend this one)
- March 14, 2020
- and May 16, 2020
