Elementary attendance options growing through open enrollment
Rock Hill Schools is providing more options to elementary school families for the 2021-2022 school year. Beginning today, Rock Hill Schools families with children who will be in kindergarten through fifth grade during the 2021-2022 school year are able to apply to attend school at Lesslie, Mt. Holly, or York Road Elementary schools.
Open enrollment applications can be downloaded from the district website, www.rockhillschools.com, until Friday, May 7.
This opportunity comes as part of the district’s restructuring of elementary school attendance lines across the district’s 14 elementary schools. The three schools selected for this inaugural year of open enrollment have been selected based on board-approved criteria including the projected capacity and utilization of each campus. Schools with enrollment at or above 75% enrollment capacity are not included in the options for open enrollment.
As space allows in each grade level, students who apply are enrolled in the new school. In situations where there are more applications than space available, a lottery will be held to select students for open enrollment. Once admitted to the new school, a student may complete his or her elementary years there unless tardies, absences, late pick-ups, and/or early dismissals become excessive, or the student does not remain in good academic and behavioral standing. Further, school bus transportation is not available to students participating in open enrollment. Parents/guardians must provide transportation if approved.
