UPDATE: Return to School Information
July 15, 2020
Dear Rock Hill School District Staff and Families,
Today Governor Henry McMaster announced new recommendations for the state regarding the return to school for the 2020–2021 school year. The recommendations include providing only two options for parents to choose from for instruction.
The options are:
- A full return of students to face-to-face learning, five days a week.
- A full virtual option for those that choose not to return to face-to-face learning, which would be available through the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy.
While this has not been mandated, Governor McMaster stated that he has instructed the South Carolina Department of Education to reject any plan that does not include a full face-to-face return for students. Under these new guidelines, we are re-evaluating our plan that was approved by our Board of Trustees on Monday night. We will be sharing more information with parents and staff as we get further clarification from the South Carolina Department of Education.
Along with the recommendation for the return to school format, Governor McMaster also recommended that schools delay opening until September 8, 2020. As such, we will now re-evaluate the school calendar that was also approved Monday night, and we will share any changes to the calendar as soon as they are determined.
We understand our parents and staff have begun preparing for a return to school under the schedule released this week and that this new uncertainty will cause more stress and anxiety for everyone. We will work quickly to notify our parents and staff of any changes as soon as they are determined.
Thank you for your patience as we work through this new information.
