Gov. McMaster closes SC schools through end of school year
Gov. Henry McMaster announced today, Wednesday, April 22, in a joint press conference with South Carolina Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman that all schools will remain closed through the end of the school year. On behalf of Dr. Cook, our Board of Trustees, and District Administration, we remain thankful to our teachers, students, and families for the remarkable job each of you have done over the past six weeks and in the weeks ahead adjusting to remote learning.
While our buildings will continue to be closed, our instruction and eLearning will continue through our scheduled last day of school on Thursday, June 4. We will share additional information and details as soon as possible regarding additional cycles of eLearning.
We understand you will have questions and concerns about today’s announcement. Rest assured, our team will develop plans for students and staff to temporarily visit campuses to close out the school year and return materials to school and collect personal belongings that remain on campus.
We will continue providing daily “grab and go” meal service at 15 designated distribution sites in our community to any child under the age of 18. At this time, we will continue contactless delivery of Back the Pack food packs to students who rely on this program. Times and locations are available on our website, www.rock-hill.k12.sc.us/mealsites.
Today’s announcement also impacts large events such as high school graduation. We will be announcing plans to recognize our graduates as soon as they are determined. We understand this school year has not gone as planned for our community, and we've been impressed by the commitment to education our students, families and staff have shown during this unprecedented time.
