General Questions

  • What school activities will be available to virtual students?

  • Will the “home” school change to the “zoned” school?

  • Is the Virtual Academy a choice program on the same “level” as other choice programs?

  • If the parent chooses the Virtual Academy on the currently open intent form, can they change their mind for face-to-face before the end of the school year?

  • Do I need to reapply for Choice if I was previously accepted in a Choice program and also enrolled in the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy?

  • Is enrollment into the Rock Hill Virtual Academy a rolling enrollment, meaning a family may decide to apply and enter the program at any time?

  • Are mobile hotspots available for families who do not have internet access?

  • If I have multiple children in Rock Hill Schools, do I need to register them all as students in the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy?

  • Will students in the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy be required to take local and state tests and assessments?

  • If the face-to-face school setting is closed due to inclement weather or other unexpected event, will the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy close?

  • What if the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy is not a “good fit”? Can my child return to his school for classes and courses during the semester?

  • Is there a principal and guidance counselor for the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy? Who would I work with if my child experiences a problem?

  • Can a student who is currently home-schooled or in a private school attend the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy?

  • Can a student attend some classes in person and some classes virtually?

  • Will Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy students be able to participate in the district’s Gifted and Talented (GT) program?

  • How will grades be communicated by the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy?

  • What will the grading process be for students who are enrolled in the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy?

  • Will there be a cap on any of the virtual class sizes?

  • Is there a cost to attend the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy?

  • What if my family does not have internet access at home?

  • Will students still access Canvas or Seesaw to submit their work?

  • Will teachers in the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy receive training on virtual learning and instruction?

  • How can students receive support for mental health issues and social/emotional learning needs? Are there any supports in place?

  • Can you address OT, PT, and Speech Services?

  • What does the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy mean for students who have an IEP or 504? Will their accommodations be met?

  • Is there a no-contact way to pick up a computer, access technical support, or receive any supplies for virtual learning?

  • Will there be opportunities within the virtual learning environment for students to be able to interact or socialize with one another?

  • Will students who attend the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy be able to participate in school sports, electives, and extracurricular activities?

  • How is the learning in the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy different from students learning in their home school?

Elementary Questions

  • Will GT services be provided for next year? Will it be a special cluster model again or a pull out service? The overview document says no specific programs will be offered.

  • Will you offer related arts teachers/ dedicated related arts teaching time?

  • What will the daily schedule for virtual classes look like?

Middle School & High School Questions

  • Would it be possible to provide a short tutorial or how-to (for accessing student classes and material) for parents who are not familiar with this technology?

  • Will Band be offered in the Virtual Academy for middle and high school?

  • Will a middle school student who has been in the district’s Dual Language Immersion (DLI) choice program since kindergarten have to give up his/her slot in the DLI program in order to attend the Virtual Academy in 2021-22?

  • Can a DLI student in Virtual Academy enroll in language classes outside of the district to maintain their participation in the program? Will AP Spanish be offered in the Virtual Academy for high school?

  • Will AP Human Geography be offered in the Virtual Academy for high school?

  • Will high school students have the option to transfer back to in-person buildings second semester, like they did in the 2019-20 school year?

  • Will high school courses meet the NCAA Clearinghouse requirements for athletes?

  • How will labs be offered in virtual classes?

  • Can middle school students still access high school courses offered at the middle school level?

  • How will Physical Education (PE) credit be offered through the Rock Hill Schools Virtual Academy?
