Follow these steps when preparing college applications:
Step I Visit individual college website or NHS website under Guidance, College Info & SC Colleges and Universities (click on college name to be taken to their website)
Step II Complete the online application (usually found on the Admissions page of the college's website). IMPORTANT - Remember, your application is the college's first impression of you.
Step III Some colleges require recommendations. Please allow a minimum of ten (10) days for the person writing the recommendation. Make sure to ask people who know you and will give you a good recommendation. Ideally, a brief resume would be helpful to give the person writing the recommendation or ask your School Counselor for a "Senior Brag Sheet".
Step IV Some colleges require a photograph. A school picture or one made professionally is acceptable. A "cutesy" snapshot is absolutely unacceptable.
Step V Once you have completed and submitted your online application, you will need to go to Parchment.com to request your transcript be sent to the colleges.
**If you are applying to any colleges via the Common Application, you do not need to bring an envelope as your transcript will be sent electronically. However, be sure to check with your counselor and the teachers you wish to receive recommendations from to be sure that they have received the email request (you will need to indicate your counselor's and teachers' email addresses on the Common Application). For a list of colleges and universities that use the Common Application click here...Common Application Member Schools
For IB exam scores to be sent, seniors need to complete the transcript request form provided by IB during their MAY exams. Indicate on this form which college you will be attending so all scores will be sent. If a transcript form is not completed in the senior year, a student can submit a request online at IB Scores
For AP exam scores to be sent, seniors need to complete the transcript request form provided by AP during their MAY exams. Indicate on this form which college you will be attending so all scores will be sent; Or submit a request online at AP Scores
- Pay attention to college application deadlines -- DO NOT ASK FOR RECOMMENDATIONS OR TRANSCRIPTS THE DAY YOUR APPLICATION IS DUE
- Do not wait on your SAT/ACT scores (you will indicate on your college application when you have or are planning on taking the SAT/ACT, therefore colleges will know to expect these scores)
- Be sure to have your SAT/ACT scores sent directly from the testing centers (www.collegeboard.org & www.act.org) ***Colleges will not accept test scores from the high school***
- Apply to more than one college unless you are positive you will be accepted.
- Use Northwestern High School's return address:
2503 W. Main Street, Rock Hill, SC 29732 - DO NOT USE YOUR OWN RETURN ADDRESS
