Career Speaker Dawn Johnson will present information about starting a business and more about her specialty during FLEX on Thursday, February 21st.     The Teen Science Café is hosting its next career presentation on Thursday, February 21st from 6:00 – 7:30. Free admission and free food!  Any high school students are welcome so bring a friend. This session will focus on the study of biomimicry.  The presentation will be held at the Museum of York County on Mt. Gallant Rd.

    JV boys soccer practice is today in f gym mezzanine, 4 – 5:30.

    Kona Ice will be here Wednesday during all lunches selling sno cones to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. 30% of the proceeds go to LLS! Please bring some extra cash ($3-5) on Wednesday to help support this great cause. Teachers, you can get a free sno cone, but we would love for you to make a donation on Northwestern’s online giving page!

    Announcing: World Language Week- March 4-8.  During that week, we have several exciting activities planned including Trivia questions each day. The first person to answer correctly will win a prize. On Tuesday, March 5, we will have World Language Day. On that day you will have the opportunity to sample food from other countries and talk to language teachers from Winthrop. In addition,  we will have free face painting,  music and dance from around the world, Chinese customs, and more.

    Special thanks to Mr. Jenkins at ATC, Ms. Dockall’s class, Amelies, Happy Garden,  el Tapatio, Los Cantaritos,  Bizcocho Bread,  Winthrop’s World Language Department.

     

    On Thursday evening the World Language Department will have an International Potluck Dinner.  The poster contest winners will be announced at this dinner. There will also be a drawing for door prizes.

    A very special thanks to  El Tapatio ,  Los Cantaritos, and Ms. West for donating gift cards for prizes.

    Plan to participate in the  World Language Poster contest! Prizes will be given for 1st 2nd and 3rd place in 2 categories: posters in English and posters in French or Spanish. These prizes include gift cards to Tapatío, all sports passes, and T-shirts. The poster must promote the study of languages and must include the theme for World Language Week. The theme is “World Languages are the key to the world” Please, see a language teacher for more details. The posters are due on Feb. 28.

    Because of ACT school day testing this Wednesday, Wednesday's schedule will run with NO FLEX time, like Mondays and Fridays do.  Additionally, ACT testers who normally have 1st block at the Applied Technology Center must remember to report to Northwestern rather than to ATC first thing Wednesday morning.  You are to report directly to your testing location.

    Juniors and seniors, starting taking care of all of your fines and fees before prom registration gets here in March.  You must have a zero balance to get prom tickets.

    Augusta University will be on campus this Thursday February 21st during FLEX in A104.  Augusta University has a South Carolina scholarship that, beginning in fall 2019, all qualified South Carolina residents will be eligible to receive a scholarship that covers the out-of-state tuition, allowing students to pay the affordable in-state tuition cost. To find out more about Augusta University, come to A104 for Flex on Thursday.

    The varsity season game to an end Saturday night at they fell in the second round of the state playoffs to Spartanburg 60-58, with a 21-6 record and City Champions.  The boys basketball staff is very proud of our young men and the men they are becoming.
