Sullivan's Principal is Dr. Juan Roldan.
Mr. Roldan arrived here with 15 years of experience in Union County (NC) and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools where he has served as a middle and high school science teacher and school administrator.
After graduating from UNC Charlotte in 1997, he spent two years at the world-renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where he was a research assistant and laboratory manager. Upon returning to the Carolinas in 2003, Dr. Roldan joined Union County Public Schools (NC) as a science teacher and later as a high school assistant principal. In 2007, he was recognized as Weddington High School’s Teacher of the Year and achieved National Board Certification in Science. In 2012, he served as a U.S. Department of Education peer reviewer for the Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF) Program. In 2013, he served Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (NC) as a high school science teacher and later as a middle school dean of students. In this role, he coordinated talent recruitment and retention, staff evaluations, school testing program and led the school improvement plan implementation. Dr. Roldan joined Rock Hill Schools in July 2018.
As principal of Sullivan Middle School, Dr. Roldan has led the reauthorization of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program and the implementation of the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program at the middle school level. He has introduced creative and innovative initiatives that support the professional growth of faculty and staff and the overall improvement of student academic outcomes. Dr. Roldan has also advanced the collaborations with the School Improvement Council (SIC) to enhance school-to-home communications, parent and community involvement, and closing of achievement and opportunity gaps. Dr. Roldan holds a master’s degree from UNC Charlotte, an Educational Specialist degree (Ed.S) in Leadership and Administration from Wingate University, and a Doctor of Education degree (Ed.D.) in Leadership and Administration from Wingate University.
