Junior Book Award Program - Each year, the South Carolina Association of School Librarians develops a list of 20 newly published books for middle school students. Students are required to read 3 of the 20 titles between October and February to participate in state-wide voting. The author receiving the most votes for his/her title receives the South Carolina Junior Book Award medal.

Battle of the Books - Students in grades 6 through 8 are invited to participate in Battle of the Books. Each year, a list of 10 titles is chosen by the middle school librarians in RHSD3. Students must read at least 6 of the titles to participate in the Battle. Students then compete as teams at the school level to determine a winning team of four to six participants to attend the district level Battle. The winning school at the district level receives a trophy to keep in their library for one year, until the next Battle. This program started in 2017 with a grant for the Rock Hill Schools Education Foundation
