Junior Book Award Program - The 2018-2019 book award nominees can be viewed here. Watch YouTube book trailers here. Books are available for checkout in our library in the fall or at the public library this summer. Students must read at least three of the titles on this list to participate in the voting party in February. Futher information will be available in our library media center when school begins in October of each year.

Battle of the books - Students in grades six and seven are invited to participate in Battle of the Books. Each year, a list of 10 titles is chosen by the middle school librarians in RHSD3. Students must read at least 6 of the titles to participate in the Battle. Students then compete as teams at the school level to determine a winning team of four to six participants to attend the district level Battle. The winning school at the district level receives a trophy to keep in their library for one year, until the next Battle. This program started in 2017 with a grant for the Rock Hill Schools Education Foundation. The district Battle will be Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Sullivan Middle School. The list for the 2019-2020 Battle of the Books will be available in the summer of 2019.

Why is summer reading important? Here are a few articles explaining why it is important to read at least one (or two or ten!) books over the summer. It actually helps keep your brain working and ready for school in the fall. You wouldn't run a marathon or play a championship game without practicing, right? Reading is practicing to be successful in school! Let's read this summer and be champions in the fall!

    One Book, One School

Restart Our whole school is reading Restart by Gordon Korman. Each student will have access to a copy of the book through their S2S class (Soar to Success, which meets every Friday afternoon during the school year). As we share this book by one of our school's favorite authors, we will also incorporate activities and lessons that reflect the many ways our students embody the IB MYP learner profiles found here. Want to learn more about Restart by Gordon Korman? Hear about it from the author himself in this YouTube video
