Choice Selection Process

  • Choice Selection Process
The selection process for Choice begins immediately after the Choice application window closes February 28th. Applicants will be notified regarding their acceptance or denial into Choice programs on or before the last day of March to the email address provided on the application.

    Choice Program Availability and Lottery
The number of slots offered for each program vary from year to year based on enrollment. Slots will be offered based on the number of slots available. In cases where more applications were submitted than slots available, a random, computer-generated lottery will be conducted.

    Priority
    1) First priority will be given to applicants applying for a Choice Program at their zoned school except in the case of Language Immersion.
    2) Second priority will be given to applicants applying to a Choice Program in which they have siblings already enrolled; siblings must be enrolled on the same level of the program (elementary, middle, high) for which the applicant is applying. In the case of Language Immersion, students will be given priority for the program in which the sibling is enrolled.
    3) Third priority will be given to the children of Rock Hill School District employees who work in the Choice School/Program to which the applicant is applying.

    Understanding the Waiting List
Unfortunately, there is not space in our Choice programs to accommodate all of the students who apply as well as those who are actually zoned for the school. All applicants who have been added to the waiting list are placed there until the acceptance/decline period ends. After that time, we are able to assess which programs still have availability which allows us to still offer some applicants their 1st or 2nd choice.  All applicants who did not receive their 1st choice are also on the waiting list for their 2nd choice by virtue of the process. Your placement on the waiting list changes with each acceptance and declination that we receive. We can provide a more accurate picture after the deadline to confirm 1st Choice offers. Applicants will be notified via email if and when slots for their 1st and 2nd choice become available and will be asked to respond to the Choice program offer within 2-3 business days.
