Hi! Welcome to third grade at Independence Elementary! Third grade is an exciting, memorable, and challenging year in your child’s development. I want this to be a positive year for your child as we build on past successes and learn challenging new things. As I get to know your child, I hope to create a safe and welcoming learning environment where we are all family and friends.
Close parent and teacher collaboration is a driving factor of student achievement; therefore, let me introduce myself. I grew up in Virginia but have spent the last 32 years in Rock Hill. I graduated from Winthrop University with a B.S. in Early Childhood and from Columbia College with a Masters Degree in Divergent Learning. This is my 13th year of teaching, and all of my years have been at IDES. Over the years, I have taught kindergarten, second grade, and this is my 3rd year in third grade. Third grade has become my favorite!
Away from school, I spend time enjoying hobbies and catching up with my family and friends. My daughter Brooke is a financial analyst in Alabama, my daughter Mallory is a nurse in Virginia, and my son Nick is in marketing in California. My other kids have paws. My dog Bella is an Australian Shepherd - Greyhound mix, and Charlie is a Newfoundland – Bulldog mix. The things I really like to do are read, cook, watch movies, and explore new destinations on vacation. I also love to be outdoors with my dogs walking, working in my yard, or sitting on the back porch relaxing.
Independence is a wonderful school! I am looking forward to meeting and working my new students and parents this year. Together we can make it the best year ever!
