1. What time does school begin and end? Students will begin to transition to their first class at 8:20 a.m. School begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:45 p.m.
    2. What is the earliest I can drop my child off at school in the morning? Dutchman Creek will open and provide supervision of students on school property at 7:45 am. Due to the unavailability of adult supervision of students before 7:45 am, it is not advisable that students are dropped off prior to the opening of school.
    3. Where may I drop off and/or pick up my child? Car-riders will enter and exit the campus from the Mt Gallant Road entrance.  Bus riders will enter and exit the campus from the Museum Road entrance. (Note: Parents may request a Principal's Pass to drop off and pick up in a special designated lot if they are agree to carpool multiple students in order to relieve traffic congestion in the main car loop.)
    4. What should I do when I need to pick my child up early? The student is to bring a note signed by his/her parent or guardian to the attendance clerk once school begins. The note should include the date of early release, the time of pick-up and a contact number. The attendance clerk will verify the note by contacting the parent or guardian who wrote the note and will issue a release note to the student to show to his/her classroom teacher at the designated time. The student is to report to the front office when released from class. The parent/guardian MUST come to the main office to sign his/her child out. 
    5. What should I do if my child is late for school? If a student arrives late to school, he/she will be marked tardy. If a student arrives after 8:30 a.m., he/she will have to sign-in at the main office. Unless a medical excuse is provided, the student will be marked tardy.
    6. What are the procedures for riding a different bus other than my child’s assigned bus? If a student is going to ride a bus other than his/her assigned bus, he/she is required to bring a note containing the student’s name, date, address, location of bus stop, bus number and a contact number to an administrator. The administrator will contact the parent/guardian for verification. Please limit these requests to emergency situations due to the limited space on buses. Questions regarding bus routes should be directed to the Transportation Complex at 803-981-2022. 
    7. How do I contact my child’s teacher or request a conference with my child’s teacher? We encourage parents and teachers to establish communication early in the school year. Teachers can be reached through email, by telephone, and during their planning periods. If your child’s teacher is unavailable you can leave a message and he/she will return your call as soon as possible. We value your child’s instructional time and we ask your consideration during class time. Academic teachers’ planning periods are during the time of your child’s elective classes.
    8. What should I do when my child is absent from school? When your student returns to school, he/she is to bring a note containing their name, date of absence, reason for absence and contact telephone number for verification. If absence is medically related, please provide the doctor’s excuse.
    9. Will my child be issued textbooks? Textbooks are issued to all students. The student is responsible for all textbooks issued to him/her and will be required to pay for lost or damaged books. Additionally, many of the resources needed for class may be downloaded to your child's iPad or learning management system. 
    10. Will the students have lockers? All students will be issued a locker for the entire school year. Because the combination locks are built-in to the lockers.  STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE TO FURNISH A COMBINATION LOCK FOR THEIR LOCKERS. Physical Education lockers will be issued when enrolled in a PE class.
    11. Is my child allowed to bring a backpack to school? Students may bring backpacks to school but all backpacks should be left in his/her locker during the school day. 
    12. How long is my child allowed to stay after school? Students should be picked up from school by 4:15 each day. Parents who are unable to arrive by 4:15 should speak directly with an administrator. If a student is remaining after school for an extracurricular activity, he/she should report directly to the destination.
    13. What is the school dress code? Please refer to the Standard Code of Dress information posted on the website.
    14. How will my child see the school nurse if needed? Students are to report to the school nurse with permission from a classroom teacher. Students should refrain from calling or texting their parents without being seen by the school nurse. 
    15. How much are school meals? The cost of school breakfast is $1.00 for students that pay Full Price and $0.30 for those that pay Reduced Price. The cost of school lunch is $2.50 Full Price and $0.40 (reduced). Students eat lunch according to their grade level.    
    16. What methods do you use to address student behavior violations? Dutchman Creek Middle School uses a proactive approach to behavior. Interventions used will include: verbal warning, notes home, parental contact via telephone and/or email, parent/student/and/or team conferences, lunch detention, after-school detention, Behavior Intervention, and/or out-of-school suspension. 
    17. May I visit my child’s school? Parents are welcome to visit Dutchman Creek!  We ask that the following guidelines are followed: 1) All visitors must sign-in at the attendance office. 2) Parents who wish to visit a class should make an appointment through an administrator. 3) Conferences may be arranged directly with the teacher, team leader, the grade level counselor or the grade level administrator.   
    18. How can I get involved with my child’s school? The most efficient way to get involved with Dutchman Creek is to maintain open lines of communication with teachers and administrators via phone, email, and notes. In addition, you may apply to serve as a volunteer or run for an elected position on the School Improvement Council.
