Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Nichole Hedgepeth

Hi! My name is Nichole Hedgepeth and I am part of the fantastic team of K5 Teachers here at Independence.  I graduated from Winthrop with a degree in Early Childhood Education.  After a few years of teaching I decided to get my Master's Degree, which I received from Columbia College. This year I will begin my 19th year of teaching.
When I am away from school, I get to spend time with even more 11-year-old triplets Abby, Claire, and Brayden. They are entering 6th grade this year and I'm not sure I am ready for middle school. I have been married to my husband Joseph for 18 years.  As a family, we love to be outside.  We enjoy going out on the boat, swimming, and Carowinds. I love animals, especially my two cats, Cam and Gunner.  We also have 2 gerbils and 2 leopard geckos.
I'm excited to announce that I will be mentoring a Winthrop University senior during her senior year.  Mrs. Robbins (Ms. Lucas) will be with us all year starting in August.  She was a part of our class last year for one semester and will join us full time when school starts until she graduates in December.
I can not wait to begin another year of teaching at Independence.  Your child is at one of the greatest schools there is, where everyone works together to do what is best for children.  We are going to have a great year and I look forward to working with you and your child this year to make it the best year possible!
