Principal - Ms. Denise Khaalid
Dear Oakdale Parents/Guardians and Students,
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” This quote by Margaret Mead, a well-known anthropologist, sums up a belief we hope to instill in every student at Oakdale – the belief that they can change the world! That belief certainly starts at home with the love, confidence, and guidance that families provide. Our goal is to continue that positive development together as partners in learning.
Our school-wide theme this year is “Choose to Be Kind.” We want our students to choose to be kind and, therefore, choose to make a difference in our communities, our city, our state, our nation, and the world. There are many examples of children who have been so deeply moved by the needs of others that they chose to do one thing that multiplied beyond their initial efforts and had a ripple effect to involve others. With the age of social media, you can look up inspiring stories of children all over the world who are making a change even though they are some of the youngest citizens in their communities. Not only do we want our students to have the World Class Knowledge and World Class Skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate, but we also know they need the Life and Career Characteristics that make them caring citizens. We want our students to take the knowledge and skills they learn and commit to making the world better for all of us.
As always, it is a blessing to serve you every day, and we know that it is a team effort with both home and school working together. Don’t hesitate to become involved and share your questions, suggestions, and concerns with us.
