Betsy Petty

My name is Betsy Petty and I am thrilled to be joining the Mt Gallant family this year as a first grade teacher! I am a graduate of Ithaca College, NY where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in music and education.  This year marks a very special year for me as I begin my 30th year teaching! Children have always been my love, my passion and my world.  Throughout my years in education, I have taught music K-12, 4 year old Pre-k, kindergarten, K-4 STEAM and was the coordinator for an online virtual academy for 2 years during the CoVid pandemic. My husband Bruce and I have been blessed with 5 amazing and beautiful children ranging in age from 12-23. We are originally from NJ where I was born, raised, married and spent most of my career.  In addition to teaching, I co-owned a gymnastics school and children’s center for 16 years in partnership with my husband who has been a competitive team coach for 40 years. Together, we make quite the team! We moved to South Carolina in the Summer of 2013 and have created a life here that we love. (Although we do miss a good snowstorm occasionally!)Somehow, I’ve acquired the nickname, “Jersey” by many of my closest friends because no matter how long I’m here in the South, my Northern roots from “home” are strong! I’m looking forward to what promises to be a great year!
