Katherine Abril, Music
Ms. Galvis has been involved in music all of her life. She began playing the piano and singing at the age of 5. Throughout her early years, she developed musically by performing in church, school and community events. She graduated Summa Cum Laude at Lee University with a bachelor degree in Vocal Performance. While finishing her degree she discovered an additional passion for teaching. Katie went through the SC PACE program to gain teacher certification for the state of South Carolina, and since then has taught in the state for 12 years. Mt. Gallant has been her home for the past 10 years. She teaches all of her music classes based on the South Carolina standards for music education, and takes great joy in teaching “outside of the box” to accommodate all learners. In addition to teaching music at Mt. Gallant, she also teaches Drama and Spanish Club.
While being in the Rock Hill School District, Ms. Galvis has been selected as a Distinguished Climber for 21st century learning and teaching, Teacher of the Year in 2011, and an Employee of Excellence in 2016. Outside of school, she teaches private voice and piano. In her free time she enjoys being active in church music, community musical theatre, and vocal performances for weddings and the community. She feels extremely blessed to be a KNIGHT due to the positive and extreme efforts the leadership, teachers and staff demonstrate each day!
