Parent Message from Mr. Hood

Dear Belleview Parents and Students,

I would like to welcome back our returning families and extend a very special welcome to our new Belleview families.  It has been a busy summer and we are ready to begin a new year.  This will be an unprecedented year as we navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic.  We are looking forward to seeing our Belleview Wildcat students real soon.

Rock Hill School District has put many new safety measures in effect to protect our students and staff as we move forward with in-person instruction for 2020-21.  Please visit to read the Rock Hill School District Return to School Plan that details  all the safety procedures for Rock Hill Schools.  Parents, please continue to prepare your children for this year by talking with them about the new safety procedures such as wearing masks and socially distancing from other students.

This year brings many new changes to keep everyone safe.  One of the first changes will be that parents are not permitted to walk their children to class or come for lunch.  During the LEAP days (August 31 – September 2), all students and parents will have the opportunity to have a scheduled visit to meet their teacher and visit the classroom.  Also, this year, we will not have morning areas where grade level groups of students are supervised from drop-off to 7:30AM. This year, for parents who transport their children to school, if possible, please drop them off as close to 7:30AM or between 7:30AM and 7:40AM.  This year, with the A/B/C schedule and students in the virtual academy, we will have about +/- 100 - 115 students per day.   Our car rider drop-off and pick-up lines will not be as full as a “normal” year.  We will have coverage if you have to drop your child off when the doors open at 7:05AM, but it is best if you can drop off your child at 7:30AM.

In order to alleviate some of the anxieties and concerns about the first days of school, please review the following items:

  1. All parents should have received an “A” or “B” day letter for their child.  “A” day students have in-person instruction on Tuesdays and Thursday and alternating Mondays (alternating Mondays are “C” days).  “A” day students will have remote learning on Wednesdays and Fridays and alternating Mondays.   “B” day students have in person instruction on Wednesdays and Fridays and alternating Mondays. “B” day students will have remote learning on Tuesdays and Thursdays and alternating Mondays.  The letter informed parents about the LEAP Days (August 31 – September 4) and our official start date of September 8, 2020.  School hours are from 7:45AM until 2:25PM.  If you will be providing transportation for your child, please make a special note of these times.  Student drop off and pick up is located on the car rider loop off of Sullivan Street.  In the morning and afternoon, school staff will assist students in the car rider area.  Students should not be dropped off at school before 7:05AM and students must be picked up each afternoon before 2:50PM.  For afternoon pick-up, we use one (1) car rider lane.
  2. Belleview will only accept handwritten notes for any non-emergency changes to dismissal.  The District understands that emergencies take place.  Therefore, these extreme situations that require a transportation change, the parent/legal guardian will need to call the school.  The school must be able to verify the parent/legal guardian’s information before accepting a change to transportation for emergencies.  When the school is not able to verify emergency changes to transportation, the school will keep the student until the parent/legal guardian, or an authorized person on the student’s information card can pick the student up.  The decision to allow the emergency transportation change is at the sole discretion of the school.  Due to dismissal procedures, please do not come into the office for dismissal after 1:55PM.   After this time, there will be no early dismissal from the office.
  3. This year, we continue Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC).  All students will get a free breakfast each morning.  This breakfast will provide all students with a nutritious meal to begin each day.  Also, Belleview has now been designated as a Community Eligibility Provision school! This means free lunch for all students in addition to free breakfast! For those who are eligible for free/ reduced priced meals, you will no longer be required to fill out an application. If you have money in your food service account, that money will remain. A la carte snacks will continue to be made available to students for purchase, however if you would like a refund of the money in your account please contact the food service department at 803-981-1019.
  4. Due to COVID-19, water fountains will not be used this year because multiple students touch water fountains.  Parents are encouraged to send water bottles with their child each day. Water will still be available at school but not from hallway water fountains.
  5. Recess will be different this year.  Classes will have their own playground area, thus not mixing with other classes.  School recess items will sanitized after class use.
  6. Parents are strongly encouraged to make outside appointments for their children on their remote learning days.  This will decrease the times students miss during in-person instruction.
  7. Please be sure to visit our website  and Facebook page  to stay up to date with the latest school information.
  8. On the first Wednesday of each month, a Principal’s Message with important information for the month will be emailed to Belleview families and posted on our website and Facebook page.

As Belleview parents, continue to be involved in all areas of your child’s school life.  We all know that this will be the most unusual year as we all work together to combat COVID-19.  By working together, the BVES staff, parents, students and the community, we can continue to prepare the students of Belleview Elementary School to be successful global citizens.
