Hands-On Science at work: Students dissect owl pellets
Students in Dr. Robinson's Aspire science classes conducted a lab where they learned what owls eat. The owl pellet lab is always a great success with students; they are always amazed at what they find.
Owls regurgitate pellets (fur-like balls) that are undigested parts of the bird's food, such as hair or bones. Aspire science students are examining and identifying individual vertebrate bones and observing how these bones fit together to form skeletons. Students learn about the owl's diet and their place in the food web.
