- Northwestern High School
Good afternoon Trojan family,
The spring semester certainly hasn’t been what anyone expected. We began with such hope and promise with sights set on graduation and other spring celebrations including prom. As our district, state, nation, and world continue to address the challenges presented by the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is with a heavy heart that we announce and confirm the cancelation of this year’s prom. You’ll remember in March when this “new normal” began, we postponed the prom with optimism that we would be able to hold the event in May. Now, with all schools in South Carolina closed for the remainder of the school year, it is not possible for us to continue our earlier plans as it would not be possible to maintain CDC guidelines regarding social distancing. While this announcement is not a surprise, we know it hurts. We recognize the desire for an alternative “community prom” to be scheduled. While such an event may be planned, we will not be able to endorse, promote, or otherwise be involved with any event that could jeopardize the safety of our students.
Plans have been developed for us to hold an open-air Graduation ceremony on (Saturday, June 6th, at 5:00 PM at District 3 Stadium). Following SC safety, health, and SC Department of Education guidelines, students will be spaced out appropriately on the stadium field and will be limited to two (2) spectator tickets. We want to ensure that the Class of 2020 will have the opportunity to come together to celebrate their twelve years of work as a group and receive their diplomas together as one. The ceremony will be live-streamed so that family, friends, and loved ones will be able to witness the ceremony as well. Specific logistical information will be released to Seniors and their families in the coming days. Congratulations, Seniors, we look forward to celebrating your graduation with you.
Each of you continues to be resilient and demonstrate the qualities that will carry you forward after graduation.
