Each grade level has a different homework policy. All students should expect to have homework. Usually, one hour is the maximum time a child should spend on homework. Students in grades kindergarten, one, and two will have reading and math facts to practice at home. Students in grades three through five will have a variety of homework assignments, often project based, dealing with current units of study. Please spend time with your child each day to make certain that he or she makes the expected progress. Stress to your child that he/she needs to understand assignments, directions, and procedures for doing homework before leaving school. Students are always given adequate instructions and explanations. Please let your child’s teacher know if you believe your child is having extreme difficulty in completing homework. Homework is meant as practice that guides instruction in the classroom.
