Degrees and Certifications:
Dr. Tammy White
I earned my Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in Educational Leadership in 2013…go Gamecocks! My research was centered in the area of giftedness in elementary age children. Prior to that, I graduated from Winthrop University with a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership…go Eagles! My Bachelor’s degree and my original teaching certificate came from my years as an undergrad at the University of South Carolina. I learned so much from my work at both of these universities, and I am proud to put that to good use here at Sunset Park CAS. Life is truly about the journey and not the destination!
I began my teaching career at Castle Heights Middle School in the fall of 1994. I taught there for nine years. During those years, I taught math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. However, math was always my favorite and the subject that I taught most consistently over those nine years. I also coached basketball, volleyball, and I was the school’s athletic director for seven of those years. I had so much fun teaching and coaching! I became an assistant principal at Castle Heights in 2003. I served in that role for three years and was able to experience life in the original Castle Heights building as well as our move to the new facility in 2004.
I am originally from Lancaster, South Carolina. I graduated from Lancaster High School and lived in the same house until I went away to college. I grew up attending First Baptist Church of Lancaster where I am still a member. I discovered that I wanted to be a teacher when I was in high school. I taught swimming lessons each summer as a lifeguard at a local swimming pool. You just never know where your inspiration in life will come from sometimes. I’m so glad that I had those experiences early. Working with children has always been an important part of my life!
My mom is still alive and living in Lancaster, but my father passed on many years ago. I am blessed to have two sisters of which I am the baby (they still treat me that way, too). I have a niece who lives in Columbia and works at the University of South Carolina. We are truly a Gamecock family!
In my free time, I enjoy being outside as much as possible! I am on Lake Wateree every chance I get. I love boating, swimming, and sometimes just sitting by the water with a book. I love reading; although, I did not enjoy reading when I was a child. However, I found that the more I read the more I wanted to read. Now, reading is one of my favorite things to do outside of school!
I also love to cook for my family. I collect cooking magazines and cookbooks. I am fortunate to have come from a long line of really good southern cooks in my family. I learned to cook from each of them.
I became the principal at Sunset Park in the fall of 2006. I cannot believe that I have been here for that many years. It is true that time flies when you are having fun!!!
