Media Relations
Media & Communications Guidelines
The Communications and Marketing Department serves as the central point of contact for all media relations for Rock Hill Schools. We are committed to ensuring transparent, accurate, and timely communication between the district and the community through print, broadcast, and digital platforms.
Submitting News & Story Ideas
School staff, PTOs, SICs, and other school organizations are encouraged to share updates regularly.
We welcome:
-
Weekly press releases about campus events and programs
-
Human interest stories that highlight students, staff, and community impact
Send your story ideas to: communications@rhmail.org

Media Requests Involving Employees
Rock Hill Schools employs expert educators and leaders in K–12 education.
If you are interested in covering a staff member:
-
Contact our team to ensure we understand your request and deadline
-
We will help identify the most appropriate source for your story
Media Requests Involving Students
Our students achieve great things every day. However, we are committed to protecting their privacy.
-
Media must obtain prior approval from the Director of Marketing and Communications (or designee) before interviewing, photographing, or filming any student
-
Exception: Routine athletic event coverage or public school-wide events
-
We comply with FERPA regulations, and maintain records of students who have opted out of media coverage
Requests Involving the School Board
Media inquiries for individual Board of Trustees members should be directed to them personally.
Their contact information is available on the School Board Page
Attending School Board Meetings
Rock Hill Schools welcomes media attendance at public board meetings in accordance with the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act.
To help maintain the flow of the meeting:
-
Interviews should be conducted outside the meeting room
-
Agendas, minutes, and notices are posted on the district website
Visiting Schools
We’re proud to welcome media and community members into our schools. However, to ensure safety and limit instructional disruptions:
-
All visits must be scheduled in advance through the Marketing and Communications Office
-
Please be aware that testing, holidays, and other events may affect scheduling
Media During Emergencies
During emergency situations:
-
Do not contact the school directly—phones must remain available for safety coordination
-
The Communications Office will serve as the official media liaison, providing updates as they become available
-
Media will not be permitted inside affected buildings
