Medical Homebound 

Rock Hill Schools believes that the school environment is the best place for a child to grow both academically and socially, even for those with significant physical or mental health concerns. When a student is absent from school, they miss important classroom instruction and social experiences. 

Rock Hill Schools' Medical Homebound service is intended for students who are unable to attend school for a limited period of time due to an acute or recurring/chronic medical issue. A licensed Physician, Nurse Practitioner, in compliance with the requirements of the Nurse Practice Act, Physicians Assistant, in compliance with the requirements of Article 7 of the Medical Practice Act, or Psychiatrist, determines the need for Homebound services. 

There are two different types of Homebound statuses:                                     

• Full-time status - the student is out of school 10 or more consecutive days (for elementary or middle school) OR 5 or more consecutive days (for high school) for a specific diagnosis.
• Intermittent status - the student is attending school on a regular basis but is absent when he/she is experiencing medical difficulties related to the specific diagnosis on the homebound paperwork.
