• We are just one week away from the start of school! All Northwestern High School students (Virtual Academy & Hybrid A-Purple/B-Gold students) will receive a class schedule by mail this week.  In creating class schedules, our counseling department worked hard to prioritize courses that were needed for graduation, and due to district restrictions in response to COVID-19, some course requests may be delayed until the second semester. As you receive your schedules this week and questions arise, please contact our school by email or phone. 

    Here are a few additional details related to the start of school:

    • Bell Schedule/Arrival/Dismissal - Our bell schedule will remain the same as last year and is posted on our school web page.  
      • 1st  Block Begins at 8:26 AM. (Students must be in their classrooms ready to learn by this time.)
      • Our gates will open at 7:30 AM. (Parents, please do not drop students off prior to this time.)
      • Breakfast will be served beginning at 7:40 AM in the cafeteria.
      • 4th  Block Ends at 3:32. (Students will be released by building in a staggered fashion for the first week of school.)
    • Transportation by Bus - Parents can check or verify their student's bus stop and arrival time by selecting the link: https://www.rock-hill.k12.sc.us/Page/8202.
      • If you have additional questions, please call transportation at the following number: (803) 980-2022.
    • Student Drivers - Students parking on campus will have access to the Senior lot (lot closest to the D building and F gym reserved for 12th-grade students only) or E lot (lot closest to Route 5/Burger King near E building reserved for 10th and 11th-grade students). Our C lot which is closest to the baseball fields will be closed.

    First Days of School 

    September 8th

      • Purple Group (A) Students will report to their 1st Block at Northwestern. If students do not have schedules, then they will be directed to the media center.
      • Gold Group B students will begin remote/online instruction on September 8th by reporting to their 1st block through CANVAS and will continue to follow their class schedule.
      • All students on remote/at-home learning days will be required to check in on CANVAS with their teachers at the time of each of their scheduled classes. 

    September 9th

      • Gold Group (B) Students will report to their 1st Block at Northwestern. If students do not have schedules, then they will be directed to the media center.
      • Purple Group (A) students will begin remote/online instruction on September 9th by reporting to their 1st block through CANVAS and will continue to follow their class schedule.
      • All students on remote/at-home learning days will be required to check in on CANVAS with their teachers at the time of each of their scheduled classes.
    • Virtual Academy - An orientation for all Virtual Academy students will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, September 2nd. A link for this important webinar will be sent to all VA students/parents and posted on our school web page.  
      • Virtual Academy students will attend online starting September 8th following their schedules and will follow the bell schedule times posted on our school web page.
      • Parents, please encourage your students to turn on and check the functionality of their computers. If issues arise, please make sure to submit a technology help request using the link below.

    • Freshman Orientation - All hybrid or on-campus 9th grade students will have an opportunity to learn more about their classes and our school on September 3rd,  5:00 - 7:00 PM.  
      • Students may bring only one parent or guardian to this event. We are requesting that you do not bring siblings.
      • Purple (Group A) Students will have a brief information session in our F Gym starting at 5:15 PM.
      • Gold (Group B) Students will have a brief information session in our F Gym starting at 6:15 PM.
      • After the information sessions, parents and students will have an opportunity to meet teachers and learn our campus in a drop-in style orientation.

    Registration Assistance Available 

    Finally, we still have several families that have yet to complete registration online. If assistance is needed, please plan to stop by our school and visit the A building office area this week to complete this important task. Our staff will be available to assist between 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM Monday through Thursday of this week.
