What a calling! From the age of 8 I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I would imitate teachers as I played school. I attended Winthrop College and received my bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I knew I wanted to learn more, so I continued going to school at Winthrop University, new name, and received my Masters in Elementary Education. This lead me to begin my teaching career. After working with students and teachers for about 24 years, I took classes in administration from Lamar University which has helped guide me to becoming a principal. I have been in education for more than 30 years and have had the pleasure of teaching first, third, fifth and sixth grades. I was a program teacher (curriculum teacher) and assistant principal for fourteen years before becoming a principal. The variety of experiences have been a blessing as I love to help people learn.
My first job with Rock Hill Schools was at Richmond Drive Elementary. I feel it an honor to be able to led and work with so many wonderful families and staff members. Richmond Drive Elementary is a true neighborhood school. The families that I met more than 20 years ago now have grandchildren that attend. We also have many new families here that provide new bonds. Our roots run deep at Richmond Drive Elementary.
I have been married to Alton Hyatt for 19 years. We have one son who attends Rock Hill High School. Our family loves many sports and attend many of the Carolina Gamecocks basketball, baseball and football games. We also enjoy Broadway plays. Although I grew up near here, Rock Hill has been home to me since attending college. I love the small town feel with the big city nearby.
