Degrees and Certifications:
I am a native of West Virginia and an enthusiastic fan of the West Virginia University Mountaineers! In 1997, I earned my Associate of Arts degree at West Virginia University. Then, I married my soulmate and best friend, Mr. Hazelett, in 1998. Afterward, I moved to Charlotte, NC, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2000. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education, with a second academic concentration in global studies and foreign language. I have had a wonderful variety of experiences in my career which include public and private education as well as an opportunity to educate adults in the business community. After living in Charlotte for 17 years, our family decided to move to the lovely city of Rock Hill, SC. We have been members of this community since July 2015. This is my third year as a member of the Oakdale family.
My husband and I are blessed with two daughters. The greatest boost to being an educator was when I became a mother. From our first day together, I emphasize, and help our class embrace, that we are a FAMILY- showing unconditional love and support to each other. We are going to learn and explore rigorous concepts during fifth grade. My desire is to instill a thirst for learning! We need to encourage and persevere to accomplish our goals!
I enjoy spending time with our family and friends, singing, reading, theatre, watching classic movies, and collecting vintage finds for our 1948 house that we are restoring. My favorite colors are red and turquoise. I love coffee, flowers, and laughing. I like pirates and talking like one. One of my fifth-grade classes taught me how to dance the Wobble. I performed it with them during our end-of-year talent show. I think it’s important for my students to teach me to be relevant.
I cannot express how grateful I am for the privilege of joining the Oakdale family! Here’s to a phenomenal year! LET’S GO, DRAGONS!!
