Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Barbara Cumberland

Welcome! My name is Barbara Cumberland and this will be my third year teaching at Oakdale Elementary School. I have been teaching for 16 years. Over the years, I have taught Kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade. I am thrilled to be teaching 4th grade!

I was born and raised in Jacksonville, N.C. with 12 sisters and 3 brothers. I am happily engaged to a wonderful man named Irvin and have 3 sons, a daughter, and 2 grandchildren that I love with all my heart!

I graduated from Dixon High School in 1987. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1998 and my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education in 2007 both from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. In 2009, I received my license to be a Principal from East Carolina University. In the future, I plan to enroll in a doctoral program.

When I am not in school, some of my favorite things to do are eating at Chili’s, going to Myrtle Beach, and spending time with my loved ones!!! My hobbies include shopping, traveling, and doing crossword puzzles.

My goal is to encourage all students to reach his/her greatest potential and to instill in them an “I Can” attitude. Teaching is my passion!
