Miss Jennifer Melton

Hello!  I am fourth grade teacher at Independence Elementary School. I graduated from Winthrop University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Learning Design and Technology.  I also have an endorsement for gifted and talented. This is my 16th year of teaching, and my 14th year at Independence. I am so excited about this school year! Visit my website:

I am from Myrtle Beach, and I travel there often to see my family. I love the New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Winthrop Eagles. I also enjoy reading, music and movies!

I cannot wait for the year to begin!! I want this year to be successful, and I believe everyone can reach success if given the opportunity. Teachers not only have a responsibility to teach the curriculum, but to teach every student to be a life-long learner. I hope to prepare my students for the future by teaching cooperation, responsibility, and other citizenship skills. Academically, lessons will be based SC Curriculum Standards for fourth grade. We will be working on reading comprehension, word study, writing, mathematical problem solving, science inquiry skills, and US history until Reconstruction

I enjoy being involved at Independence. I help with the Student Lighthouse Team to implement the Happy Habits program.  I sponsor the student council called Patriot Council. I also help with Step Team. Independence is a partnership school with Winthrop University and I am the liaison.  This year I will be mentoring a teacher candidate from Winthrop.
