Mathematics
Math instruction in Rock Hill School District Three is designed to provide students with concepts and skills that enable them to use math in their everyday lives.
Instruction also prepares students for success in the state testing program which includes the Palmetto Achievement State Standards (PASS), the Algebra I End of Course (EOC) test, and the High School Assessment Program (HSAP). The curriculum at every grade level is based on the SC Math Academic Standards. The standards include concepts and skills in the following strands: Number and Operations, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement, and Data Analysis and Probability. Students also receive instruction in the processes of problem solving, reasoning and proof, connections, communication, and representation.
Instruction is provided through a variety of strategies. Teachers give students work that is meaningful and engaging. There is a focus on problem solving (with real world applications) and using math in ways that make sense to students at every grade level.
Students have a variety of materials to use in learning math: textbooks, calculators, computer software, measurement tools, and other manipulatives as well as access to Internet resources.
