Nutrition
Menus are carefully planned by Registered Dietitians to meet the nutritional needs of growing, thinking, and playing students. A variety of foods are offered and students are allowed to select their own meals.
Analysis of the menu is completed using current software designed to compute the nutrient content of meals. The nutrient content is then compared to the Recommended Daily Allowances for students in a particular age group.
Each breakfast meets at least 1/4 of the Recommended Daily Amount for total energy, protein, calcium, iron, vitamins A, and C.
Each lunch meets at least 1/3 of the Recommended Daily Amount for total energy, protein, calcium, iron, vitamins A, and C.
In addition, the menus provide no more than 30% of total calories from fat and no more than 10% of total calories from saturated fat. This is in compliance with the current regulations for the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program from the United States Department of Agriculture.Nutrition information for each item offered is posted daily so students can make informed nutrition choices.
