Meet the Choir Directors
Becky Sanderson is an elementary music specialist and teaches grades K-5 at York Road Elementary School in Rock Hill, S. C. She holds both the B. M. E. and M. M.

degrees from Winthrop University as well as a Specialist’s Certificate in Music Education (Choral).
A member of MENC, SCMEA, AOSA, and ACDA, she has completed certifications for Levels I and II in Orff-Schulwerk and Level I of the Choral Music Experience with Doreen Rao. Mrs. Sanderson is also a member of Winthrop University’s Corps of Mentor Teachers.
In addition to her position at York Road, Mrs. Sanderson is the director of the fourth and fifth grade choir at Oakland Baptist Church in Rock Hill as well as the director of the Rock Hill School District #3 Elementary Honors Choir. For six years she served on the faculty for Summer ST-ARTS, a program for artistically talented middle school students, and has served for many years as an adjudicator for Paramount’s Carowinds Choral Festivals.
In 2002 Mrs. Sanderson received her National Board Certification. Mrs. Sanderson is the composer of Follow That Star, a Christmas musical for children's voices, which was published by Abingdon Press in April 2003. Her hobbies include reading, spending time in the mountains of North Carolina, and porch-sitting with good friends.
Gwendolyn B. Colter is the music teacher for grades K-5 for Independence Elementary School. She received her

B.M.E and M.M.E degrees from Winthrop University and is certified in Level 1 Orff-Schulwerk and Level 1 Kodaly. She has many(16) years of experience as a music educator at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Gwen is currently the church musician for Clinton Chapel AME Zion Church in York, SC, and is co-director and accompanist for the Rock Hill Ecumenical Chorale.
