Elementary Honors Choir

The Rock Hill School District Three Elementary Honors Choir was established in 1992. This choir was created to provide a choral experience for musically talented fourth and fifth grade students in the district.  To become a member, a student must first be nominated by his or her school’s music teacher.  Approximately one hundred nominated students audition individually and through this process fifty to fifty-five new and returning students are chosen to be members of this special choir.

After the auditions for new students are completed in the fall, choir rehearsals are held after school once a week for the remainder of the school year. The Honors Choir performs a variety of repertoire and each year presents both a Winter and Spring concert.

Each year the choir is invited to perform at numerous events.  Over the past 10 years the Honors Choir has performed at the annual Rock Hill School District Three Education Foundation “Spring Gala” and the Rock Hill “Come-See-Me Festival.” The choir has sung in Winthrop University’s “Festival of Carols” since 1994, has performed the National Anthem at numerous sporting events held at Winthrop University, and was invited to be the guest performer at Winthrop’s dedication of The Richard W. Riley School of Education.  One of the greatest honors achieved by the Rock Hill School District Three Elementary Honors Choir was having been selected as the featured elementary choir for the South Carolina Music Educators’ Association conference in 1998.
